Burgoyne Middle School is a popular and expanding school where pupils enjoy their learning. We achieved a “Good” in our last Ofsted inspection which highlighted that pupil behaviour and academic achievement is strength of the school. Over the last three years our pupils results in national tests have been above national standards. Pupils make good progress across the four years they spend with us. The standards our year 8 pupils achieve when they leave us are significantly above the standards expected of year 9 pupils nationally. We provide an excellent learning environment with subject specialist facilities, resources and expertise, along-side primary curriculum and teachers. This enables pupils to be safe, happy and to achieve academic excellence. Our committed, experienced and enthusiastic staff ensure that there is an ethos where no child is overlooked and every child is valued. We offer our pupils outstanding opportunities including residential visits to outdoor activity centres and to France. There is an extensive extra-curricular programme throughout the year for every year group; these run during and after school in areas such as sport, computing, cookery, art, music and drama. At Burgoyne Middle School we provide a rich and varied curriculum, where pupils can fulfil their potential and achieve high standards. The advantage of the middle school system is that children joining the school at year the beginning of Year 5 (aged 9 years) benefit from the emphasis on pastoral support, the opportunity to experience a wider curriculum and early academic needs assessment .As they move through the school they are encouraged to contribute to the life of the school by taking on additional roles and responsibilities such as Form Representatives, House Captains, Librarians and School Councillors. The emphasis on personal as well as, academic development ensures that children of every character, ability and maturity are catered for and their progress and successes are recognised. It is a real privilege to be the Interim head teacher at Burgoyne Middle School. I know that the staff, pupils, parents and governors have worked hard to ensure that Burgoyne is a “Good” school. Clearly, there are many strengths at Burgoyne. I am sure you share my belief that the school has the potential to be “Outstanding” and it is in a strong position to achieve this ambition. At Burgoyne, we are always happy for visitors to see our lovely school in action. If you would like arrange a visit or to meet with me, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Welcome to the Burgoyne school community, I look forward to a successful partnership. Ms A Harvey
